Overeating Due To The fear Of Going Hungry

A simple tapping solution to a common challenge

If you are on a quest to lose weight, you can benefit from copying naturally slim people. Naturally slim people only eat when they are physically hungry, and not when they think they should eat.

The fear of hunger can be a driver to eat when you are not hungry. And eating when you are not hungry means eating when your body does not actually need any food. And eating when your body does not need food leads to your body storing the food as fat.

Let me give an example from my own experience. I used to work at a busy clinic, where on occasion, I would perform massages for hours on end, feeling really weak and hungry if I had eaten beforehand. I found myself getting into the habit of eating when I could eat rather than when I was hungry, even if I had plenty of gaps in-between appointments. This was because of the fear of going hungry. It is an illogical and purely emotional thing. A colleague saw me bolting the food down in-between appointments and said ¨Slow down, that food will still be there when you finish work, you don´t have to eat it so quick¨. And then it hit me; I realised that if I needed extra energy, I could always quickly drink some juice or yoghurt drink in-between appointments, to give me the energy to perform another deep tissue massage. I also changed what I ate, to give me food that released energy more slowly through the day.

As well as the example above, some people have gone through lean times when there was not much food to eat. This is also a driver for the fear of hunger. If this is the case for you, congratulate yourself on recognizing it and remind yourself that now you have enough – or plenty even.

It makes sense to tackle the fear of hunger, especially if you need to lose weight. When you find yourself eating just because it is time to eat or because you can quickly grab something, try tapping as follows.
