Childhood Trauma May Not be in the Home!

Finding those elusive childhood root causes

By Suzanne Zacharia

I have had many experiences of client childhood trauma recently that have nothing to do with the home environment. Maybe the parents are loving and caring, or maybe not, however, these are instances where the client as a child experienced trauma outside the home. Some of this trauma may seem trivial at first. But remember that when we are children, a little thing can seem very big to us, and maybe we do not hear comforting words that give us better understanding at the time. These traumas are then locked into the energy system and can affect adult behaviors and feelings, our relationships to others and our self-esteem. All are tappable issues.

Examples from my client experiences include the following. I have deliberately left out the more obvious traumas like assaults, sexual abuse, kidnapping, war, etc, as nobody needs help realizing that they affect a child or anyone else for that matter.
  • An overly critical or sarcastic teacher.
  • Bullying by other children at school.
  • Not fitting in with other children. Whilst this may not contain any abuse or bullying, feeling left out is translated by the child into "I'm not good enough" or "Nobody wants me".
  • A best friend leaving the country (the child can feel abandoned).
  • Psychologists telling the child over and over again on a weekly basis that their behavior is abnormal or that they have a bad personality (which the child translates into "I am a bad person" rather than recognizing that they are possibly being abused by a person in a position of authority). This can have such a strong effect that the adult may spend many fruitless hours looking for abuse root causes from their parents and not even consider that they have been systematically abused by psychologists.
  • A "developmental disorder" or neurodiverse condition that singled the child out in lessons. The child translates that into "I am stupid and ashamed of myself" even if actually very intelligent.
  • Going to sports or arts coaching where the teacher or coach is abusive. In some countries, this can involve hitting or belittling the child whenever they make a mistake. This can lead to anxiety and a need to be perfect all the time in adulthood, at cost to the person's wellbeing.
I hope this helps yours and wish you peace always.

A virus caught along with 5 other students at university at the end of 1986, plus medical negligence, meant that I got smokers lung at a relatively young age.  In desperation for help with my symptoms and quality of life, I turned to complementary therapy, and I have outlived one doctor's prognosis by many years now.

I am now a complementary therapist, author and trainer specializing in energy healing.  Want to use this article?  You can, as long as you credit me with it and invite your readers to get my FREE book "EFT How-To For You" at http://www.EFT-Scripts.com
